Driving with no destination felt free and comforting. Glaring into the distance, along familiar and not so familiar roads allowed me to play out scenes from my life.
These scenes were more about my earlier life with my then girlfriend and eventual fiancé and finally, spouse. I played out scenes over and over looking for signs either on my part or hers.
The steering wheel took the brunt of my frustrations as the perplexity surfaced and then loomed. The nighttime roads with occasional oncoming traffic kept me aware yet gave me no hope for a journey’s end.
Those roads only provided me space but no answers.
Still, I was somewhat comforted from the escapism of traveling nowhere. My mind’s eye traveled outside of my car high above like watching a movie where the main character is driving along winding roads trying figuring out his life through constant flashbacks.
I was that character and unlike a movie where there is a definitive end, my story was only beginning.
